Two very valuable lessons were learned today:
1. If you have a sore throat, get it checked asap.
2. And when you get it checked don’t go to a hospital, go to a clinic.
Let’s start with lesson 2. I didn’t get any sleep last night, ’cause my sore throat which started this week, and I decided unwisely to ignore got so bad that I thought I was choking all night. So I wake up, and decide maybe work is a bad idea and getting my throat checked is a good one. (In the long run that was the better idea.) After phoning around (specifically McGill’s student clinic, which doesn’t treat anyone other then McGill students.), I found a clinic literally 3 blocks away… Unfortunately, the hospital is right next door, and has pretty much the same name.
5 hours later of sitting in Emergency, and barely being able to breathe (Even though my SpO2 was 99% somehow.) I went in, and in less than 5 minutes, the doctor was absolutely certain I had strep, and not only that, apparently it was pretty severe. So now I have horse pills that will get rid of the infection (Which if I went in 5 days ago wouldn’t be as bad), and like 2 different pain killers so I can sleep. Which all worked like magic. I feel amazingly better now… Which thus proves the first point. If I have a sore throat, I’m going to the doctor’s right away.
Oh yeah, and did I mention that I am not supposed to leave my house for a few days. So, under a virtual house arrest as well.
Oh well, at least I am feeling a million times better than I was this morning, and will start to feel even better as these horse pills start to kick in and kill the strep.
Such is life though, you live and learn. ^_^
