It’s time to stand up for Canadian sovereignty

From a friend of mine (S.Enns) on a mailing list I am part of:

"Marc (Emery) writes about how he feels about this extradition case, and reflects on what he has done so far in his activist career." See: http://cannabisculture.com/articles/4482.html

As a recommendation for anyone who is interested as much as I was regarding this matter. Please write an e-mail to your MP or to Irwin Cotler or contact him his contact information is: http://www.irwincotler.parl.gc.ca/contact.asp?lang=en

I have already sent off an e-mail to both of the MPs in my region (Waterloo region) regarding this matter, specifically addressing how I feel that the fact that he has not been formally charged with any Canadian crime and yet still is being arrested severely infringes on our sovereignity. I will likely phone them next week regarding this matter if no changes are visible.

Not only is this horrifying bad for Canada if we do extradite these three politically active and beneficial members of our society, but it will set a precedent for American law in Canada that I do not think anyone here would want to have.

Please, speak out, write in your blog, write letters to newspapers, phone/fax/write your MP or Irwin Cotler, and let them know how much you feel that this extraditing these essentially political prisoners is a bad idea for them and a bad idea for Canada. Try to convince 10 other people to write a letter or phone or fax their MP to express their sheer outrage about this. I am going to do as much as I can, not because I support the legalization lobby or even marijuana smoking, but because I support freedom and liberties, and the fact that this man has not been charged for any crime in his own country yet still could be put in jail for life. A man who has contributed greatly and meaningfully in many surprising ways to the Canada we live in now.

This is absurdity, and this is wrong, and it is up to all of us and all good Canadians to stop this atrocity from happening.

Feel free to forward this to anyone to try to get more people moving on this.

ps. I will post the contact information of the MPs in the Waterloo region within a couple of days.

pps. Particularly disturbing is some quotes from this article: (if anyone knows the original source for the quotes below, please msg me) http://cannabisculture.com/articles/4479.html

" In interviews, the head of the US Drug Enforcement Administration, Karen Tandy, made it clear that her departments attack on Emery were an effort to derail his political campaign for cannabis legalization.

"Today’s arrest of Mark (sic) Scott Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine and the founder of a marijuana legalization group, is a significant blow not only to the marijuana trafficking trade in the US and Canada, but also to the marijuana legalization movement," said Tandy.

"Hundreds of thousands of dollars of Emery’s illicit profits are known to have been channeled to marijuana legalization groups active in the United States and Canada. Drug legalization lobbyists now have one less pot of money to rely on." "

It seems that activism is illegal now in the states if you disagree with the system and try to change things.

Quote of the Day:

Read: http://erg.environics.net/news/default.asp?aID=583

"Approval of the job Jack Layton has done as NDP leader has risen by five points to the current level of 57 percent, making him the only national party leader who is approved of by a majority of Canadians. Three in ten Canadians (31%) disapprove of Layton."

And yet, the Liberals and Conservatives still lead in the polls. It’s just insanity really.
