Pirates and Emperors

A very cool little video. The reference he refers to is taken from City of God, by St. Augustine, which was in turn referenced by Noam Chomsky.

Either way, it’s a cute little video. :)

Ontario supports our troops

Ontario will keep it’s flags at half-mast to show support for our brave men in Afghanistan. As well, they decided to one more thing in respect:

The Ontario legislature held a moment of silence Monday to honour the four slain soldiers, something the House of Commons did not do.

Is it nice that some of our provinces; Alberta, Ontario; are willing to show the respect these brave men deserve.

A father’s request

Words cannot express my anger at when a father’s son is sacrificed in the name of a country, and the government actively goes out of its way to deny his request.

Alberta supports our troops

Well, even if Harper refuses to respect and honour the soldiers who die in our name, at least Alberta’s government will lower it’s flags as a sign of respect.

“I think it’s the least we can do,” he said. “When they pay the ultimate price, the least we can do is show the whole world and everybody that we are in mourning and that we’re with the families.”

Damn straight.

Tons of travel

So, I am heading out in 2 days for a ton of Train travel. This should be quite exciting. My books and stuff are all in transit to Alberta, and I am going to be following them after partying and enjoying the sites out here for a week or so longer. Current plans:

  • Montreal (Apr 26th - May 5th)
  • Ottawa (May 5th - May 7th)
  • Kitchener/Waterloo (May 7th - May 9th)
  • Edmonton (May 11th-May 15th)
  • Seattle (May 17th-May 23rd)

So, if you are in any of those cities for those days, let me know, and we’ll get together. It should be an awesome time. I cannot wait for all of the train travel I am getting (I am doing all of the travel via train, including some nice blue and silver and first class travel along the way. Yay Canrail pass. :D )

Have fun!

Show respect for those who die for us, Harper.

For a man who supports our troops, he sure has a funny way to show it. He refuses to lower the flag over parliament for any of our troops, and his excuse…?

“We have returned to the 80-year tradition of remembering all casualties of war or operations on one day - Nov. 11th,” Defence Minister Gordon O’Connor said.

No, Mr. O’Connor, you are entirely and completely wrong. Just as those brave men and women do not have to just go for one day a year to sacrifice their lives for us, we should have respect and honour for each and every man who dies in the name of this country. Remembrance day is an important day, but to that young mother whose son or daughter died, or to that wife who will have to raise her children now alone because her husband died in the name of this country, by your decision being the prime minister, your desire to be at war, your hand, Mr. O’Connor, Mr. Harper, remembrance day is but a pittance.

Respect these brave men and women, Mr. Harper, even if it just a little gesture. Lower that flag so that every Canadian knows that we do support our troops, and we care when every single one of them dies in our name. If you cannot even do that, then you should not be allowed to send them to die. It is really that simple.

Vastleftwingconspiracy.net

To all of the fellow conspirators out there, I finally cracked and bought vastleftwingconspiracy.net . So, technically now it is a completely seperate site from my blog. http://vlwc.1337hax0r.com will still work, so all of the old links will work just fine. I just thought I’d follow some advice from my e-mails and get the vlwc moved to it’s own domain.

Enjoy! I hope everyone likes the new domain and remember I am always open to suggestions and ideas to add to the new site.

Anyone know where this Bushism is from?

From Diet Coupon ;

“I’m the decider and I decide what’s best. And what’s best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain.”

Sounds like Bush to me - Childish and Derogatory. However, I do not know where the quote is from? Anyone got a source?

Edit: Excellent, thanks for the references. Here is a vid for people who are interested, c/o Crooks and Liars.

Upgraded to wordpress

So I have finally cracked and decided to upgrade my blog software to use wordpress. After some fiddling I was able to get the old look to work more or less with wordpress so there shouldn’t be too many changes. The biggest difference is that for entries after the “pre-wordpress” entries, it will use my comment system instead of haloscan.

Another big thing is that while I have coded the feed.php to redirect to the new feed, that may not work for all users. If you have a problem, please just use my new feed.

Thanks,
