Now, facebook lets pretty much anyone in, and the site has been changed to a style which is actually more difficult to use. So, basically the little brats and trolls are all showing up and filling the place with garbage and useless accounts.
I am now seriously considering leaving and perhaps even trying to start up a university only system (I know, work and honestly how would I get people to join?) again to maintain the exclusivity and perhaps prevent all of the garbage that seems to turn all of these good sites into crap. Facebook was actually really nice when it only allowed people who were mature enough to get into University, and basically started to go further and further downhill as it opened up to everyone.
Now, the trolls, the babies, the idiots, and pretty much what destroys most of the internet commons are filing into Facebook and slowly making it more and more difficult and useless.
SA was able to keep these problems down by making it easy to be banned and cost to join. Perhaps with a similar method a new facebook/friendster/myspace/livejournal-esque site could maintain the same level of quality by preventing people from creating bs joke accounts if it is going to cost them, and allowing free membership to people who have proven that they have some reasonable level of maturity (and make it possible to ban them if they start to do bs crap.)
Sadly, I love to keep things open and allow everyone to join, but it takes very few people to destroy the commons, especially if it costs them nothing, and facebook is slowly becoming another example of this. Perhaps if something could be built that uses facebook’s original exclusivity, and SA’s payment/ban method then a good networking site could be built which will allow everyone, and prevent all of the crap that makes themĀ bogged down and useless.
Just my thoughts.

Sadly, you are right. Facebook will soon rapidly diminish in value, and be filled with pedophiles and 12 year olds strutting nurse costumes more then it is filled with University students now.
Mayyyybe if the host wasn’t such a sell-out and remembered his roots this wouldn’t happen.

agreed 1337hax0r. People who are not in high school are starting to get facebooks, and it seems stupid, to the point where facebook is useless to have. Especially these little 6th graders starting to have one..i mean can you not wait 3 years?
much love,

It’s true, facebook is now a website that anyone can use and sadly, most people are using it carelessly and simply for harming others. Kids are ganging up on each other online and that causes a huge impact on their daily lives–> they screwup one time online and end up ignored for pretty much all the time they have in school. Kids/(not yet) teens are wasting their time away on facebook trying to soak up all the info. they can abou others… thats ok to an extent but it keeps getting out of hand… in other words: I AGREE
Sorry about writing such a newspaper,
