How to go to war against any nation in 3 easy steps

1. Get the legislature to allow two items to become law even though they have vaguely defined terminology. These laws must authorize you to lock up all assets and declare criminal all organizations associated with this badly defined enemy, and potentially authorize you to go to war against a said enemy and any nation that the enemy may lie in (From AUMF):

(a) IN GENERAL- That the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.

(From Executive Order 13224):

(a) any transaction or dealing by United States persons or within the United States in property or interests in property blocked pursuant to this order is prohibited, including but not limited to the making or receiving of any contribution of funds, goods, or services to or for the benefit of those persons listed in the Annex to this order or determined to be subject to this order.

2. Claim the army of the nation you want to invade is a terrorist organization (From WaPo).

The United States has decided to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, the country’s 125,000-strong elite military branch, as a “specially designated global terrorist,” according to U.S. officials, a move that allows Washington to target the group’s business operations and finances.

3. Antagonize said nation by locking up all funds connected to said nation as they are necessarily funding their own military, which is now legally a terrorist organization. If the antagonized nation has a large amount of assets stored within your nation, they will take this type of economic attack very seriously. They may attack you and thus you can claim they attacked first, thus starting your pet war.

However, if lighter heads prevail in this nation, then it is possible to fallback onto the AUMF and simply attack them as they are a nation harbouring and protecting a terrorist group.

So basically, there you have it. With 40% of their equipment either destroyed or worn out to a point where it is not useful, George W. Bush is now setting things up so he can drag the United States into a war with Iran before he leaves office, completely destabilizing the Middle East and ensuring oil prices will skyrocket as Iran produces a significant portion of the world’s oil supply. This will be wonderful for those who control oil and are already incredibly rich, but pretty crappy for the rest of us who will have to deal with higher food prices, higher rental prices, higher power rates, and higher pretty much everything.

“I don’t drink alcohol.”

I found these pictures to be quite interesting:

bushdrink2.jpgbushdrink.jpg

If I am correct, he’s pouring himself a nice glass of german hacker-pschorr beer. Quite a good beer I enjoy myself from time to time. Normally, I wouldn’t have noticed this if it weren’t for the fact that I just read this a little earlier.

He said he drinks a couple of cups of coffee in the morning and drinks a lot of water and, of course, no alcohol.

“I don’t drink alcohol. I can remember when I used to drink, I had trouble sleeping at night,” the President said.

Does anyone remember how he “decided to give up alcohol entirely. The decision was in keeping with his new spirituality, which saw him became a born-again and convert to his wife’s Methodism.” Does anyone remember how many born again supported him because he was one of them? Does anyone still believe a word that comes out of this man’s mouth?

I wonder if Bush still has trouble sleeping at night?

h/t Rising Hegemon

edit: I found a better picture of the bottle, and it’s actually a beer called Buckler. It’s a non-alcoholic 0.5% beer. I am willing to admit when I’m wrong, h/t plawiuk for the better picture of the bottle.. Either way, it’s a bit odd for a recovering alcoholic to be drinking even non-alcoholic beer. Usually your doctor or support groups will suggest you avoid that.

A Statement by the POTUS

From the Whitehouse’s website. (Emphasises mine.)
—-

Today, on the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, the United States declares its strong solidarity with torture victims across the world. Torture anywhere is an affront to human dignity everywhere. We are committed to building a world where human rights are respected and protected by the rule of law.

Freedom from torture is an inalienable human right. The Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment, ratified by the United States and more than 130 other countries since 1984, forbids governments from deliberately inflicting severe physical or mental pain or suffering on those within their custody or control. Yet torture continues to be practiced around the world by rogue regimes whose cruel methods match their determination to crush the human spirit. Beating, burning, rape, and electric shock are some of the grisly tools such regimes use to terrorize their own citizens. These despicable crimes cannot be tolerated by a world committed to justice.

Notorious human rights abusers, including, among others, Burma, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, and Zimbabwe, have long sought to shield their abuses from the eyes of the world by staging elaborate deceptions and denying access to international human rights monitors. Until recently, Saddam Hussein used similar means to hide the crimes of his regime. With Iraq’s liberation, the world is only now learning the enormity of the dictator’s three decades of victimization of the Iraqi people. Across the country, evidence of Baathist atrocities is mounting, including scores of mass graves containing the remains of thousands of men, women, and children and torture chambers hidden inside palaces and ministries. The most compelling evidence of all lies in the stories told by torture survivors, who are recounting a vast array of sadistic acts perpetrated against the innocent. Their testimony reminds us of their great courage in outlasting one of history’s most brutal regimes, and it reminds us that similar cruelties are taking place behind the closed doors of other prison states.

The United States is committed to the world-wide elimination of torture and we are leading this fight by example. I call on all governments to join with the United States and the community of law-abiding nations in prohibiting, investigating, and prosecuting all acts of torture and in undertaking to prevent other cruel and unusual punishment. I call on all nations to speak out against torture in all its forms and to make ending torture an essential part of their diplomacy. I further urge governments to join America and others in supporting torture victims’ treatment centers, contributing to the UN Fund for the Victims of Torture, and supporting the efforts of non-governmental organizations to end torture and assist its victims.

No people, no matter where they reside, should have to live in fear of their own government. Nowhere should the midnight knock foreshadow a nightmare of state-commissioned crime. The suffering of torture victims must end, and the United States calls on all governments to assume this great mission.

—-

Wow, I agree with him fully. I think that the United States should prohibit, investigate and prosecute people who condone torture and believe it is an acceptable practice. In fact, if the US is leading the way in this matter, I can think of one nation right away that they could investigate, and prosecute… Not that it is really going to happen. Heaven forbid governments are not run by a lying lot of hypocrites.
But yeah, IOKIYAC, eh?

Appropriate comic of the day

I am so glad that the Americans have clarified how they are allowed to torture people the president doesn’t like. As well as detain them without charge and all. That was definitely something that needed to be done in the name of “protecting the fatherlan… ahem.. I mean homeland.”

It is never unacceptable… to think.

Somebody had to say it. It is only too bad it took this much time, and this much damage before it was said.

Recent Joe Scarborough blog entries

Is Bush an Idiot?” followed by “Keep Bush Away From the Press are a couple of really interesting blog entries by Joe Scarborough. A MSNBC pundit who has historically really supported Bush.

Including interesting quotes such as:

“Has anyone told him that making jokes about pig roasts after being asked about the bombing of the Beirut airport is not how a Commander in Chief acts in front of the international press corps?”

For the past six years George W. Bush has been the target of ridicule from liberal circles. But now, instead of laughing at Democrats’ ill-directed arrogance, Republicans are quietly joining the left in questioning the President’s intellectual prowess.

It is quite interesting when the cons in the states start to agree with “liberal circles” especially regarding Bush.

I know why Bush read L’étranger

Throughout the blogosphere, everyone is commenting on the fact that Bush apparently claimed to read Camus’ L’étranger. Well, I just dismissed it as whatever, but then I ran into a quote from a different article:

While balking at an expanded war into Syria, Olmert did agree on the need to show military muscle in Lebanon as a prelude to facing down Iran over its nuclear program, which Olmert has called an “existential” threat to Israel.

So, from this I finally figured it out. Camus’ L’étranger is a prime example of existential literature, and since Israel is under an “existential” threat from Iran and Syria, it would make perfect sense for Bush to read it. That way Bush will understand the full nature of the “existential” threat to Israel.
It all makes perfect sense now! :)

Bush’s biggest fan.

Contrary to what any of the media in Canada has said, apparently Harper’s long-awaited visit (Which if you remember, was rescheduled again and again by Bush’s aides) seems to have crashed and burned. In a weird way, Harper came across as the weird kid who got invited to the birthday party even though no one wanted him there and he was trying to be cool. After some pretty solid signals that he was not welcome there and that Bush did not care about him at all, Harper did a great job of showing his lack of french speaking abilities (by asking reporters how to say certain things in french). It is great that we have a prime minister that will improve relations with the states, as much as having the really weird annoying kid acting as your representative with the really cool crowd.

Again… it’s odd no Canadian media has really hit on this as far as I know.

Anyone know where this Bushism is from?

From Diet Coupon ;

“I’m the decider and I decide what’s best. And what’s best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain.”

Sounds like Bush to me - Childish and Derogatory. However, I do not know where the quote is from? Anyone got a source?

Edit: Excellent, thanks for the references. Here is a vid for people who are interested, c/o Crooks and Liars.
